Stenciled Burlap Bunny Plaques for Easter Decorations

I enjoy making holiday-themed crafts, and this cheerful Easter project is one of my favorites. Adding small seasonal touches around the house is an easy way to brighten your home, and these stenciled burlap bunny plaques are quick, affordable, and charming.

Hi, I’m Katie from View From The Fridge. I’m excited to share an easy Easter craft: Stenciled Burlap Bunny Plaques. These are perfect for hanging on a wall, door, or mantel to welcome spring.

Easter Craft: Stenciled Burlap Bunny Plaques

The idea started when I found these wood plaques on clearance at Michael’s. They were the perfect base for a simple, rustic Easter decoration.

If you’ve seen other projects of mine, you may notice a few favorite elements I like to use:

  1. Burlap textures
  2. Stenciling for clean shapes
  3. Shabby chic finishes

With those preferences in mind, I designed a simple bunny silhouette to make a handmade stencil. You don’t need a cutting machine — a printed shape and a craft knife work fine.

Supplies

  1. Printed bunny shape to trace and cut
  2. 8″ x 10″ piece of wood for each plaque
  3. Adhesive vinyl sheet (or sturdy cardstock for a stencil)
  4. 7″ x 9″ piece of burlap, frayed on the edges
  5. Craft paint for the plaque base (I used yellow and light turquoise) and white for the bunny
  6. Pouncer or sponge brush for stenciling
  7. Rope, ribbon, or twine for hanging
  8. Yarn for a pom-pom tail
  9. Spray adhesive
  10. Sandpaper for distressing
  11. Staple gun

Step-by-Step Instructions

Materials and finished stenciled burlap bunny plaques

  1. Paint the wooden plaques with your chosen base colors. Let the paint dry, then sand the edges and corners lightly for a distressed look.
  2. Trace the bunny silhouette onto the back of the adhesive vinyl (or cardstock) and carefully cut the shape out with a craft knife to create the stencil.
  3. Center and adhere the vinyl stencil to the middle of the burlap piece.
  4. Using a pouncer or sponge brush, apply white paint inside the stencil with a gentle up-and-down “pounding” motion to avoid paint bleeding under the edges.
  5. Let the paint dry 10–15 minutes, then remove the stencil carefully. Allow the painted burlap to dry completely (about an hour) before proceeding.
  6. Spray the back of the stenciled burlap generously with spray adhesive, then position it in the center of the painted plaque. Press down so it adheres evenly—spray adhesive bonds quickly, so center it before contact.
  7. Attach a piece of rope, ribbon, or twine to the top of the plaque for hanging. Use a staple gun to secure the ends on the back, one staple on each side.
  8. Create a small yarn pom-pom as a bunny tail and glue it to the painted bunny on the burlap.
  9. Allow all glue and paint to dry fully. Your stenciled burlap bunny plaque is finished and ready to display.

These plaques look great grouped together along a hallway, clustered on a kitchen wall, or hung on a front door. They also work well set on a mantel or shelf as part of a spring vignette.

One of the best parts of this project is that you likely already have many of the supplies at home. You can use scrap wood instead of store-bought plaques, and cardstock makes a perfectly usable stencil if you don’t have adhesive vinyl. When using cardstock, secure it with tape so it stays in place as you pounce the paint to achieve crisp edges.

I hope you enjoy making these stenciled burlap bunny plaques. Have a lovely spring and a happy Easter!
