Enjoy this quick and easy Parmesan Lemon Asparagus Skillet as a flavorful side dish for busy weeknights. Bright lemon, garlic, parmesan, dried oregano, and Italian seasoning make it simple and delicious.
Asparagus is one of my favorite vegetables. It’s versatile and delicious whether served as part of a main course or simply as a side. If you enjoy asparagus in main dishes, some popular pairings include asparagus with chicken, pasta salad, or quinoa and sausage. But this skillet version stands out as a quick, bright side that changes up the routine.

Whether you prefer tender or slightly crisp asparagus, this skillet method works beautifully. The combination of garlic, oregano, Italian seasoning and a squeeze of lemon elevates the natural flavor of asparagus, while freshly grated parmesan adds a savory finish.

This recipe comes together in minutes, making it ideal when time is tight but you still want a satisfying, wholesome side. Season the asparagus with salt and pepper, add dried oregano and Italian seasoning, sauté briefly with garlic in olive oil, then finish with lemon juice and parmesan. Serve it alongside rice, a green salad, roasted chicken, or pan-seared salmon for a complete meal.

Parmesan Lemon Asparagus Skillet
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 pound asparagus trimmed
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 2 pinches dried oregano
- 2 pinches Italian seasoning
- Juice of 1 lemon or more, to taste
- 2 tablespoons freshly grated parmesan
Instructions
-
Heat olive oil in an iron skillet or a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
-
Add the minced garlic and sauté until it starts to brown and becomes fragrant.
-
Add the trimmed asparagus, season with salt, pepper, dried oregano, and Italian seasoning. Toss with a spatula to coat evenly.
-
Cook 5–7 minutes, depending on how tender you like the asparagus.
-
Sprinkle the parmesan over the asparagus and cover the skillet for about 1 minute to melt the cheese.
-
Remove the lid, toss with lemon juice, adjust seasoning to taste, and serve.
Notes
- Snap off tough ends of asparagus at the natural breaking point or use one stalk as a guide to trim the rest.
- If you don’t have a cast-iron skillet, a large nonstick skillet works fine.
- A larger skillet helps avoid overcrowding; too much overlap causes steaming instead of sautéing.
- To store: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- To reheat: Reheat in the oven or microwave until warmed through.
- To freeze: Place cooled asparagus in a freezer-safe bag and freeze up to 2–3 months.
