In October I sailed the Mexican Riviera with Princess Cruises. It was a wonderful trip spent with friends, full of great food, sunshine and laughter. Our final port of call was Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I had never visited Cabo before, so I was excited to explore. A friend who went the previous year raved about it, and I suspected I would love it too.
I brought my friend Jess along, and every morning on the ship we started the day with room service. Our order was the same each morning: coffee, two croissants with marmalade, butter and strawberry jam, plus fresh fruit. A gentle knock on the door, breakfast on the balcony, then we dressed and headed to the buffet for a heartier, protein-packed second breakfast.
On our day in Cabo, after that second breakfast we changed into swimsuits and disembarked for an afternoon of luxurious sailing. I hadn’t sailed before, so I didn’t know what to expect, but it was pure indulgence. We were welcomed aboard with a glass of bubbly, then set sail. The afternoon included light snacks, anchoring to swim in the clear water, a relaxed lunch, a few cocktails, watching fish swim beneath us, and then a leisurely return to the ship.
One highlight for me was overcoming my nerves about open water. I tend to avoid anything beyond a pool—shark movies have made me cautious—but everyone else took the plunge, so I followed their lead. I jumped off the yacht and swam in the ocean. It felt incredible, and I kicked myself for not doing it sooner.
As we sailed back toward port I caught a great view of our ship, the Ruby Princess—she’s stunning. Returning to the vessel, I stepped off to take photos and was rewarded with a spectacular sunset. The sky was ablaze that evening, and I was grateful to capture a few memorable shots before the day ended.
