Red, White & Blue Caprese Bites for Holiday Entertaining

Patriotic Caprese Bites are a simple, festive appetizer that’s perfect for 4th of July gatherings.

Skewers with cherry tomatoes and mozzarella balls arranged in stripes, and blueberries with star-shaped cheese pieces forming a flag pattern, make festive bites perfect for health-focused food recipes on a wooden board.

This quick recipe highlights bocconcini (small mozzarella balls), blueberries, grape and cherry tomatoes. It’s fresh, colorful and easy to assemble — ideal for parties or picnics.

To serve, arrange the blueberry Caprese skewers on a platter or cutting board so they resemble an American flag. Right before serving, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and a splash of balsamic vinegar. Add torn fresh basil leaves if you like for extra aroma and flavor.

Recipe Tip

If you prefer a fruit-only patriotic platter, swap the tomatoes for strawberries, red grapes, or sliced red apples, and replace the mozzarella with canary melon or other pale fruit for the white stripes.

This fun American-flag-style platter is a crowd-pleasing party food for your Independence Day spread.

Equipment

  • canapé sticks
  • small star cookie cutter

Ingredients

  • 11 grape tomatoes
  • 11 cherry tomatoes
  • 24 bocconcini, mozzarella balls
  • 20 blueberries
  • sea salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Instructions

  • Assemble each stick in this order: bocconcini, heart-shaped grape tomato, another bocconcini, and finish with a cherry tomato.
  • Arrange the skewers on a serving tray or board to form the flag layout: place seven skewers down the right side and four along the bottom left.
  • Fill the area above the left skewers with rows of blueberries (four rows works well).
  • Slice a few bocconcini and use the small star cutter to cut out mozzarella stars; place them on top of the blueberries.
