Some school fundraisers are genuinely valuable to both the school and the people who support them. One such event at my children’s Waldorf school is the satsuma sale. I like to think of it as more of a “fun raiser” than a typical fundraiser.
Each year, Shining Mountain organizes a sale of sweet, organic satsuma tangerines just before the winter holidays. The timing is perfect for gifting and for enjoying fresh fruit during the festive season.
I buy case after case of these exceptional satsumas for friends and family. I tend to give a case to many people on my gift list — sometimes more than I originally planned — because they make such thoughtful, useful presents.
Why we love these satsumas:
- Organic
They support the kind of agriculture we believe in: responsible, chemical-free farming that cares for the land and the people who work it.
- Sustains our school
The sale raises funds that directly benefit the school community and help support programs, supplies, and events.
- Great gift
These satsumas are a delicious, nourishing alternative to the usual holiday clutter — practical, healthy, and well-received.
We’re happy to spend our money here because this fundraiser feels like a win-win: it supports sustainable agriculture, helps our school, and provides a delightful gift for friends and family.
