Baby Grant: 4-Month Milestones, Growth & Photos

Today is my first Mother’s Day. It still feels surreal—I can’t quite believe I’m a mother—yet I’m reminded of it every single moment. My little guy is growing so quickly and finding new ways to get attention. He absolutely loves attention, and I love giving it to him. He deserves every bit.

Grant also loves going for walks. The moment I put on his hat, he breaks into the biggest smile. Watching him soak in the world around him is priceless.

Highlights
  • Major milestone: he can now roll onto his tummy! It happened this month, and suddenly the ottoman in front of the couch is off-limits—he’d roll right off. We moved a large play mat to the living room floor, and he loves it.
  • Sleep is mostly good at night. After a difficult growth spurt a few weeks ago when he woke frequently, he’s now managing a first stretch of 4–5 hours at night, which is a big relief. Daytime naps, however, are inconsistent: in his crib he often naps only 20–30 minutes, but on my chest he can sleep for up to two hours.
  • We haven’t settled into a strict schedule yet. I’ve been following his cues and letting him set the pace, though I plan to analyze the app data I track to develop a more regular routine. My main goal is to make his daytime naps more predictable.
  • Feeding patterns changed in mid-April: his appetite decreased noticeably. There was one night he went several hours without eating and became very upset at the breast, which led me to call the pediatrician late at night. He was fine physically—his weight is at the 91st percentile—so we’ve accepted this as his new normal for now.

I post lots of baby updates on Snapchat under the username shineshka for anyone who follows me there.

Mommy Confession

Because Grant sleeps best on my chest, I often let him nap there for up to two hours while I get work done on my laptop. It’s probably not the ideal long-term habit, but it feels wrong to let him wake after only a short nap in the crib. This arrangement lets him rest and gives me time to be productive, so for now it works.

Three Baby Products We Love

Ergobaby 360 Baby Carrier – We researched carriers and chose this one for its multiple carry positions and ergonomic seating. Grant is comfortable and I don’t feel the strain on my back during our daily walks.

SoftTiles Foam Playmat – This foam mat is attractive, practical, and makes tummy time more fun and safe on the floor.

Ozeri Turtlemeter Baby Bath Thermometer – A simple, waterproof thermometer that displays the water temperature. It removes the guesswork and gives peace of mind during bath time.

If you missed previous monthly updates, they are available archived on my blog under the baby category.

To all the mothers reading—Happy Mother’s Day! I’d love advice on establishing a nap schedule. If you have tips for encouraging longer, more regular naps in the crib, please share your suggestions in the comments.
