Peak Design Pro Tall Tripod — Professional Camera Tripod (40 lb Capacity)
Product description
Professional-grade support in a compact footprint. The Pro Tall Tripod is designed to give photographers and filmmakers high confidence on location: stable, precise, and quick to deploy. It folds down to 22.9 in x 3.66 in for easy packing and travel and unfolds in seconds for immediate use.
What’s included: the tripod with its integrated ball head and quick-release clamp, plus the hardware necessary for mounting and fluid panning. The package is intended to be a ready-to-shoot solution so you can mount cameras or heavy telephotos without needing a separate head.
Construction uses precision-machined metal and engineered polymers for durability and smooth operation while keeping weight reasonable. The complete setup weighs 4.5 lb and is built to carry payloads up to 40 lb, accommodating full-frame cameras, large bodies, and long lenses.
How it’s used: legs deploy quickly and lock into position for fast setup; the quick-release lever makes attaching and removing your camera intuitive. The integrated ball head allows one-handed adjustments and, together with built-in fluid panning, enables smooth cinematic moves for video and accurate framing for stills.
Field performance: the tripod is intended for varied terrain and travel photography. Its compact folded dimensions fit into carry-on luggage for many flights, and the design prioritizes portability without sacrificing load capacity or panning control. For certain vertical orientations you may choose to use an L-bracket or extend the center column.
Pros
- High 40 lb payload in a travel-sized package
- Fast setup and compact folded dimensions
- Integrated fluid panning and one-handed ball head
Cons
- Premium cost
- Integrated head can be less forgiving with very long, heavy lenses
- Vertical shots may need L-bracket or center-column extension
VerdictThis tripod is engineered for creators who need rock-solid support in a compact package. It shrinks to 22.9 x 3.66 in for travel, weighs 4.5 lb, and can handle rigs up to 40 lb while offering integrated fluid panning and a one-handed ergonomic ball head. It’s an excellent travel tool when you want professional-level load capacity and smooth motion in the field. Consider its integrated head design

Great travel option, not a full pro replacement
Nice, compact design and saves weight by combining the head and legs, but it doesn’t match traditional pro head-and-tripod combos for absolute rigidity. The integrated ball head can be top-heavy with large telephotos and you’ll need an L‑bracket or center-column raise for vertical framing. Keeping it for specific travel uses, but compare alternatives if you need studio-grade torsional stiffness.

Absolutely worth the spend
Pricey at first glance, but I’m thrilled with it. As a six-foot shooter it reaches perfect height for me. Lighter than expected and pops open quickly. I collapsed it small enough to tuck into a 22" carry‑on for flights. I’ve bought five or six items from Peak Design over the years and this one continues that streak of quality.
