ARCTIC MX-4 Thermal Compound (8 g) — High-Performance CPU/GPU Paste
Product description
What you get: an 8 gram syringe of thermal compound with a protective screw cap for storage and repeat applications. The tube is sized for several CPU or GPU re-tasks depending on application style.
Composition and performance: the paste uses carbon micro particles as the thermally conductive ingredient, delivering high thermal conductivity while remaining metal-free. Because it contains no conductive metals, it reduces the risk of electrical shorts if a small amount strays beyond the heat-spreader.
Compatibility and usage: designed for all modern processors and graphics chips, it is suitable for desktop CPUs, laptop CPUs/GPUs and discrete GPU heatsinks. Apply a pea-sized amount or a thin line between the chip and cooler, then mount the heatsink normally — its consistency lets it spread evenly under pressure.
Durability and handling: the formulation is stable over long periods, so reapplications are infrequent. The paste has a thick but workable texture that many users find easy to manage; beginners can achieve good results. The resealable cap helps prevent accidental oozing when stored.
Pros
- Metal-free, non-conductive formulation
- High thermal transfer from carbon particles
- 8 g syringe offers multiple applications
Cons
- Thicker consistency may require care to spread
- Syringe can continue to ooze if not stored upright
- No dedicated applicator included
VerdictReliable and widely used, this 8 g thermal paste balances ease of use, long-term stability and strong thermal transfer. Its carbon-based, non-metallic formula removes short-circuit risk and gives multiple applications from a single syringe, making it a practical choice for builders and upgraders who want steady temperatures without complex maintenance.
Reviews
-
Rody 5/5
Does the job on older hardware
Small amount was enough to reseal heatsinks on an older laptop. After replacing the dried paste the system stopped shutting down from heat for well over a year.

Hector Perez 5/5
Recommended over generic pastes
Noticeably better than standard generic compounds — I see about a 3–4°C improvement compared to cheap alternatives.
-
Rysher 5/5
Best value for general use
Not too runny or too pasty — performs well across a variety of devices from consoles to modern CPUs. If you need extra gains, consider newer premium formulas.
-
Marco 5/5
Solid paste for compact systems
Used on a Ryzen 5 5500 in a cramped case with limited airflow — temperatures dropped and remained steady. Good choice when space limits cooling options.
-
Yeva 5/5
Easy to use and long-lasting
Application is straightforward, the tube is compact for storage, no strong odor, and temperatures have stayed great since reapplying. Very good value for the performance.

TRAN MINH DUC 5/5
Compact tube, solid results
Small 8 g syringe but effective — good thermal improvement and easy to store.
-
Jota 5/5
Top choice for balance of performance and safety
A reliable classic: thermal conductivity around 8.5 W/mK, non-conductive and long-lasting once applied. Great for gamers and power users who want solid thermal control without electrical risk.

Thicker texture — take your time to spread
A bit viscous, so I had to reapply once to eliminate hotspots. Once properly spread, temps are stable and much cooler than before. Plenty left for future builds.
-
Fulvio 5/5
My go-to for value and simplicity
Easier to apply than very stiff pastes and only a degree or two behind extreme-performance compounds. I spread it with a card and it has held up across multiple CPUs and GPUs.

Christophe 5/5
Does what it should
Performs as expected and applies cleanly.

Effective compound but syringe can drip; no spreader included
Good thermal transfer and enough quantity for several reapplications. The cap seals well, but the syringe sometimes keeps oozing until I hold it upright. I would have liked a small applicator — I use a q‑tip edge to spread. It cut temps noticeably on my laptop GPU/CPU.

KeithL 5/5
One of the most dependable pastes I've used
Built two Ryzen 9 rigs and used this with high-end air coolers. Temps stayed solid under load and I appreciate past experience with Arctic products lasting years without degradation. If you want a stable, once-applied solution this performs reliably.
