Botanical Western Timothy Hay — Hay Blend for Rabbits & Small Pets
Product description
This botanical forage pairs hand-selected Western Timothy hay with a blend of aromatic herbs to create a flavorful, fiber-rich feed for rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and other small herbivores. The mix typically contains chamomile, lavender, lemon balm and clover combined with green, mature timothy strands. Bags are sold in smaller retail sizes (commonly around 425 g in the retail pack many owners receive), convenient for households that rotate hays or only need modest quantities.
Each bundle is hand-sorted to remove excess dust and short bits, preserving long, soft stems that encourage natural chewing and proper dental wear. The hay is intended to be offered daily as the primary forage source, either alone in a feeder or blended with other timothy varieties for variety. No artificial colors, flavors or preservatives are added, and the herbal notes are meant to stimulate appetite and provide enrichment for picky animals.
Owners use this botanical timothy to promote digestive health through sustained fiber intake and to support mental enrichment by encouraging foraging behaviors. The pleasant aroma and visible floral pieces make it a good option for animals that need encouragement to eat hay, while its texture remains soft enough to reduce risk of eye irritation in small species.
Pros
- High-fiber base supports digestion
- Herbal scent increases palatability
- Hand-sorted for reduced dust
Cons
- Retail bag is fairly small
- Some stiff pieces may be discarded
- May be more costly per ounce than bulk hays
VerdictA fragrant, high-fiber forage mix that encourages foraging and steady hay intake. The herb additions boost aroma and appeal for picky eaters while the timothy base supports digestive and dental health. Ideal as a daily staple or mixed with other hays, though retail bag sizes run small.

Great hay
My go-to for my guinea — reliable and my pet seems happy with it.

Good timothy, small quantity
Solid quality timothy for guinea pigs. The hay itself is good, though the amount in the bag feels limited for the cost.

Botanical mix wins with fussy rabbit
This botanical variety is the only hay my picky rabbit will consistently eat. The added herbs make a big difference for fussy feeders.

Guinea pigs adore it, wish bags were larger
My guinea pigs go crazy for this — lots of flowers on the stalks which they seek out. The texture leans softer while still being nutrient dense. The bag is small and doesn't last long; I wish it came in larger sizes or that I could buy more per order, but I'd still recommend it.

Consistently green and fragrant
This is the third bag I've bought; each one has been green and fresh. I mix it with plain timothy and a pinch of my own herb blend — our rabbit Snowball really enjoys it.

Finally a hay she will eat
I rarely leave reviews, but my very picky rabbit finally loves this one. After trying many varieties she now devours this mix and has been eating hay regularly. The scent is pleasant, almost like a tea blend.

Works for a picky bunny
My daughter's rabbit is extremely picky and ignored his previous hay, which was dusty and full of short pieces. This botanical timothy feels thick, low in dust, and makes little mess. Most importantly, he eats it every day and empties his feeder now.

Soft, small pack for a hamster
I bought a small bag to add enrichment to my hamster's cage. The soft timothy stems are gentle around the eyes and it has a sweet, fresh scent. The compact package is perfect since I don't need large quantities, and my hamster seemed pleased to have it.

Loyal for nine years
I've used this hay for nine years. My female is 9 and my male is 8. I rotate types sometimes, but this botanical mix has become their favorite. While I was away a caretaker bought a different brand and they refused it and had odd droppings. Back on this mix everything returned to normal — it smells like real hay and I can tell the difference from farm hay.

Chonchon's favorite — fragrant but small bag
My guinea pig Chonchon absolutely loves this. I use it alongside Western Timothy. The quality and aroma are exceptional — it smells almost like a herbal tea. Only downside: the botanical bag is small (about 425 g) and disappears quickly; too bad there isn't a larger size.

Lots of flowers but some waste
My guinea pig's favorite hay because of the flowers; he pulls hay out to get to them. There were even a couple of small yellow bits he liked. Downside: many hard yellowish strands go uneaten so half of the bag ends up wasted. It does smell like chamomile though, which he enjoys.

Tried the botanical option
I usually give organic hay and bought this botanical blend for the first time. The bag smelled strong when opened and I worried they wouldn't try it, but they ate it without any issue.
