Allegro Decaf Organic French Roast Whole Bean Coffee — 12 oz
Product description
This product is a single 12-ounce bag of organic, decaffeinated whole bean coffee. The beans are roasted to a French/dark roast level, producing a deep color and visible surface oils typical of darker roasts.
Decaffeination is done with the Swiss Water Process, a chemical-free method that reduces caffeine while retaining flavor. The bag contains whole beans only — no pre-ground options included in this pack.
Flavor profile leans smoky with sweet undertones and a generally smooth finish, fitting for those who prefer a pronounced dark roast profile. It can be brewed in a French press, made as espresso (doppio), or prepared with pourover methods, though grind size and water temperature affect balance and bitterness.
Users report best results when experimenting with medium-fine to slightly coarser grinds depending on method; a lower brewing temperature and adjusted grind often improves acidity and sour notes in pour-over. The packaging does not display a roast date on some batches, which some buyers have noted.

- Organic whole beans decaffeinated via Swiss Water
- Versatile across press, pour-over, and espresso

Technique changed my cup
My pourover was sour until I lowered the water temp and coarsened the grind. At 18 g of beans to ~220 ml water, medium-fine grind and 198°F water gave a much better, strong cup. Bitter, but not overwhelming — adjust grind and temp to taste.

Top flavor for a decaf
Self-styled coffee snob here — this decaf scores an A+ in my book for taste and roast character.

Performs well in a French press
Pleasant coffee in the press. I noticed it’s Swiss Water processed, which means lower residual caffeine than standard decaf. I brew in a French press and find it very satisfying.

Great French roast decaf
Solid decaf with low acidity and no harsh bitterness. I’m torn between this and another favorite decaf brand, but this one satisfies my French roast preference and will be reordered.

Pulls a good crema for espresso
Finally found a decaf dark bean that produces crema in a doppio. I grind just over 1.5 with a precision basket and get nice crema and the expected dark-roast flavor. You can see the oil on the beans. Swiss Water decaf keeps caffeine out of the equation. I’d like a roast date, but the coffee performs.

Harsh for lighter brews
These beans come across aggressively harsh rather than just bold. Fine for a French press, but too burnt and overpowering for espresso, pour-over, or milk drinks. Age may be a factor; some batches seem older. A similar retail version exists for less and is not French roasted, though still decaf.

Dark, fresh-tasting decaf that mixes well
I bought whole beans to use with a machine that grinds fresh. I used to buy a pre-ground decaf but wanted a whole-bean dark roast. I blended half of my usual dark roast with half of this decaf and the beans matched in color. The brew was rich, very dark, and tasted fresh—exactly what I hoped for from a decaf whole-bean option.
