Organic Gunpowder Green Tea — 54 Hand-Rolled Tea Bags
Product description
Sourced from Jiangxi, China — the region home to the country's first Fair Trade tea garden — this gunpowder green is supplied as 54 individually wrapped tea bags. Fair Trade sales in the growing region have supported higher wages and helped fund schooling through high school and university for local communities.
Leaves are plucked and rolled by hand on a traditional wok into compact pearls within hours of harvest. That quick, artisan rolling preserves aroma and concentrates the tea’s roasted, slightly toasty character, producing a smoother, fuller-bodied brew than many standard green teas.
The flavor profile leans toward roasted and clean rather than grassy. Green tea naturally contains the amino acid L-theanine — associated in studies with relaxed alertness — alongside catechins, the antioxidants commonly found in green tea.
Every sachet is made from manila hemp (Abacá) fiber and sealed with a crimp-and-knot method instead of plastic heat-seals, so no polypropylene contacts the infusion. The bags are BPI Certified Biodegradable and supplier-verified to be free of added plastics or microplastics. The outer wrappers are plant-based and commercially compostable, produced from FSC-certified paper and non-GMO sugarcane.
Certified USDA Organic, Fair Trade Certified, B Corp and Climate Neutral Certified. For best results, steep in hot (not boiling) water for about 2–3 minutes. The tea delivers a medium level of caffeine that will vary with steeping time.
Pros
- Full-bodied, roasted green flavor
- Plastic-free, biodegradable tea bags
- Strong Fair Trade and organic certifications
Cons
- Medium caffeine may suit some more than others
- Flavor is deeper than lighter green teas
- Bulk packaging can be plain
VerdictA robust, roasted-style green tea that balances depth and clarity. The tightly rolled pearls deliver a lingering aroma and fuller mouthfeel than many bagged greens. Strong sustainability credentials and plastic-free tea bags make it a good pick for eco-minded tea drinkers seeking an energizing daily cup.

Initially loved it, then stopped
Started with multiple cups daily and liked that it’s organic. Later I developed headaches and joint pain that went away after I quit; not sure if the tea caused it.
