Sapele Wood Folding Bread Lame — Sourdough Scoring Tool
Product description
How to use: Slightly loosen the thumb screw, pull the blade out from the small retaining piece, then re-tighten the screw to secure the razor. When finished, loosen the screw just enough to rotate the blade down into the wooden handle segment and tighten to lock it in the closed position.
The blade can be fully concealed inside the handle for safer carrying or storage. The thumb screw is designed to be hand-turnable so you can remove and reinsert blades without tools. Once tucked away, the razor is compact and reduces the risk of accidental cuts while taking up minimal space.
Materials and extras: The tool is crafted from solid sapele wood and fitted with brass screws, offering a smooth finish and long-lasting use. This is a handcrafted, reusable implement rather than a disposable item. The package includes 10 replacement straight razor blades so you won’t need to source spares immediately.
Blade and performance: This lame uses a straight razor instead of a curved one, enabling very precise, thin slices across your dough. It requires little pressure to score effectively and typically avoids dragging or ripping the surface. The shape and balance make it comfortable to handle and easy to steer for clean, intentional slashes.
Gift note: With its attractive wooden exterior and quality fittings, the lame also works well as a present for bakers and hobbyists who enjoy making artisan loaves.

Great gift for a baker
Bought this for my mom and she absolutely loves it. She says it works wonderfully, the design is pretty, and the blade is sharp. A simple, well-received present for anyone who bakes regularly.

Essential tool for home sourdough bakers
I bake sourdough regularly and this lame noticeably improved my scoring. The razor is sharp and slices cleanly without pulling the dough, so my loaves open up better in the oven. The folding mechanism is handy — loosen the thumb screw, fold the blade into the handle and tighten for safe storage. The wooden handle feels sturdy and comfortable, and the extra blades are a welcome bonus. The straight blade lets me score quickly and precisely.

Makes scoring neater and easier
This lame made my scores much more controlled. The blade cuts through the dough smoothly and doesn’t tear the surface. After scoring I loosen the screw, tuck the blade away, and tighten it down — very safe for drawers. The handle is well finished and pairs nicely with the brass hardware; it feels like a durable tool rather than a throwaway. The spare blades are useful so I don’t have to rush replacements.

A confident, well-designed scoring tool
Lame preference is personal, but this handle gives excellent control when scoring. Deployment and retraction are safe once you learn the motion, and blade swaps are intuitive. Ten spare blades let you stock up slowly. The laser-cut tree detail is a nice aesthetic touch on an otherwise practical, thoughtful tool.

Performs well but opening is tricky
The razor itself cuts cleanly, but the mechanism to open and close the blade is awkward. I found it hard to release the blade from the handle, which was frustrating. Once opened it scores fine, but the stiff action disappointed me.

Beautiful, but needed a small tweak
I adore the look and feel, but it arrived a bit tight between the main handle and the blade-holding piece. A little sanding and some cutting-board oil smoothed it out and now it works beautifully. Once adjusted it’s far more pleasant than many plastic or metal alternatives. Buyers should be aware they might need to fine-tune the fit.

Much easier to use with arthritis
I tried several designs and this one is far easier on my hands. The larger knurled thumb screw is simple to grip and turn, unlike smaller UFO-style models. I can also set the blade at an angle for wider expansion cuts without my hand hitting the dough. It’s attractive and comfortable to use, and gives me better control despite joint issues.
