XCMAN Ski & Snowboard Multi-Angle Base Edge Tuner — Aluminum Guide
Product description
This multi-angle base edge tuner is designed to provide the three most common base bevels in a single tool. The selectable settings are 0.5°, 1.0° and 1.5°, allowing quick changes between low- and higher-bite configurations without swapping guides.
The main structure is machined from aluminum alloy for longevity and stable tracking along the ski or snowboard edge. Guide pins roll to keep the tool aligned while you stroke a file or stone. The unit is sized to accept files and stones no thicker than 7mm and no wider than 26mm.
A coarse mill/bastard-cut file is included for initial material removal; the guide will also accept oil stones, diamond stones and other files with compatible dimensions. The file clamps into the body and is secured by a hand knob.
To use, choose the desired angle, insert and clamp your file or stone, then run the guide along the base edge in steady strokes. The open-ended guide accommodates longer files, and the compact footprint means it can be packed with a tuning kit for slope-side touch-ups. Note that finer grits or additional files are recommended to refine the edge after the coarse pass.
Pros
- Solid aluminum construction
- Three precise angle settings (0.5°, 1.0°, 1.5°)
- Works with files, oil and diamond stones up to 7mm × 26mm
Cons
- Hand knob is plastic
- Only a coarse file is provided
- Sparse documentation and tuning guidance
VerdictA sturdy, precision-oriented edge guide that covers the common base bevels used by skiers and boarders. The aluminum body gives a reassuring feel and the three fixed angle options make repeatable tuning simple. It accepts common files and stones (≤7mm thick, <26mm wide) and comes with a coarse mill file for initial passes. Downsides are a plastic locking nut and limited instructions, but for regul

Sharpness level is excellent
Edge finish is great overall. Suggest adding intermediate angle options like 0.75° and 1.25°.

No instructions
Very disappointed — no user guide included.

Heavy, sturdy, and reliable
Heavier than the plastic guides I’ve used; feels built to last. The locking knob is plastic but holds the file firmly and the angle selector stays put. Fits well in the hand and the file shows little wear after multiple uses. A bit pricy compared to basic guides, but seems like a long-term keeper.

Pro-level results at home
After having my skis professionally tuned I bought this and tuning vices. The build is impressive and it sharpens base bevels cleanly. The stone is removable so you can swap grits. Very happy with the performance for routine maintenance.

Thoughtful design and sturdy feel
A nice upgrade for a home tuning setup. The aluminum guide accepts a variety of files and stones (it included a coarse mill file) and the angle adjustment is easy. The rolling pins give a smooth feel when stroking the edge; a couple of finer files will make the edge truly razor-sharp.

Mostly great, a couple of misses
The mostly-metal construction inspires confidence, but the hand nut is plastic and I worry about longevity. It also ships with only one coarse metal file; extra grits would be helpful. Hoping other files from my collection fit the body.

Well made but needs clearer instructions
The aluminum body and rolling guide pins are excellent, and the open-ended design takes longer files. It’s compact enough for slope-side touch-ups and the angles are clearly marked. I do wish the manual explained which angles suit which conditions and gave guidance on positioning the file.
