Amateur radio
25–1300 MHz Discone / Scanner / GMRS Antenna with 10m Cable
Product description
This discone-style antenna is designed for wideband receive and transmit duty across 25 to 1300 MHz, making it usable on HF, VHF, UHF, FM, AM, FRS, GMRS, air bands and many amateur radio channels. Common frequencies it can cover include 27, 144, 430, 904, 915, 978, 1090 and 1200 MHz.
Mechanical construction uses stainless steel elements with a vertical polarization. The antenna is specified with a nominal gain of about 3.5 dBi, a characteristic impedance of 50 ohms and a VSWR typically below 1.5 across much of the band. Maximum continuous power handling is rated at 200 watts.
The unit ships with a 10 meter coaxial cable terminated for PL‑259/SO‑239 connection and comes with adapters to interface with other common radio inputs: a PL‑259 to BNC male adapter and a PL‑259 to SMA male adapter are included for compatibility with scanners, mobile radios, handhelds and SDR front ends.
Typical applications include public radio scanners, amateur and mobile transceivers, two‑way radios and SDR receivers. Installation is straightforward: assemble the radials and mast hardware, attach the coax, and mount either on a rooftop mast or a mobile bracket. The stainless steel structure is intended to resist corrosion for outdoor use.
Pros
- Extremely wide frequency coverage (25–1300 MHz)
- Stainless steel radials resist rust and weathering
- Includes 10 m cable and common adapters for quick hookup
Cons
- Some units show fit or thread imperfections during assembly
- Not a premium high-end antenna — performance varies
- Occasional reports of small hardware failures (screws/threads)
VerdictA versatile wideband discone that receives and transmits across a very large slice of the spectrum. It’s well suited for scanner use, general ham and GMRS monitoring, and mobile installs where a simple vertical, rust‑resistant antenna is needed. Build quality and fitment vary between units; many users report solid performance for everyday listening, while a few note assembly or hardware issues tha

Does the job reliably
Performs exactly as I needed. Installation was quick and it's been problem-free. I added an extra roof bracket where I mounted it.

Transmission claims are misleading
I could only get transmit activity near 900 MHz. Not suitable for many ham transmit needs.

Good reception overall
Picks up stations clearly and works as expected.

Solid and effective
Sturdy antenna that receives well and does what it's supposed to.

Reliable performance but one hardware issue
As a longtime ham I know discones well — it works nicely. I dropped a star because one of the three small base screws was cross-threaded and broke when I tried to remove it per the instructions.

Strong signal pickup
Very good at capturing signals in my area.

Lower build quality than premium models
Feels like a budget version. Some threads were not cut cleanly so parts were hard to screw in. Reception is okay but not better than my older, higher-end unit.

Impressed with the build details
I had an older discone from a friend and used this with my IC-R8500 and Yaesu. The stainless parts are nicely machined and the radial tips look finished. Assembly was easy thanks to clear instructions. Still need to finalize the mount, but I expect good results on the local ham net.

Well packaged and useful for shortwave
Arrived packed securely. I'm happy with it and expect it to help with shortwave reception.
